Coaching juggernauts Sharon Babb and Erin Howden came to Pride of Portland this past weekend (Jan. 31 and Feb 1) and wow! What an unparalleled session of coaching and choreography! We can't wait to incorporate the changes and rock the stage at Regional in Spokane in April. The bios of these ladies (below) speak for themselves - they were everything these say and more! We can't wait to get them back again.

Pride of Portland is thrilled to announce the launch of their new Groupanizer website! The content is comprehensive and the style and look exceeded our wildest expectation. As we prepare for International in Baltimore, we couldn't have asked for a better presence on the internet. 2013 was Pride's best year yet. We scored a record-breaking 701 at Region 24's last competition, and as we look forward, we hope to make 2014 even better!

"One good thing about music, is when it hits you, you feel no pain."

Judging from the quote above, Bob Marley was part poet, part scientist. That's because there's truth to his head-bobbing lyrics from the song Trenchtown Rock. A composer by the name of Jim Wilson has recorded the sound of crickets and then slowed down the recording, revealing something so amazing: the crickets sound like they are singing the most beautiful chorus in perfect harmony. Though you may think it is human voices, everything you hear in this recording is in-fact crickets themselves!

Congratulations to the Ronninge Show Chorus from Sweden--shown here from their 2011 appearance at contest--who recently were named the 2014 International Champion Chorus for Sweet Adelines International. Joining winners of other contests who are from Canada and the United States, Ronninge's win truly puts the "international" in Sweet Adelines International!

Not only did Ronninge capture first place, they were also voted the Audience Choice Award and the Celebrity Judge Award, a rare triple crown win. Truly outstanding barbershop!

Chorus Contest Finals Results

As Pride of Portland members know, singing together can be an indescribable experience, uniting the chorus in a way that is somehow both exhilarating and calming. And now, scientists have discovered that singing with a group can actually slow down and synchronize the heartbeats of singers!

A team of Swedish researchers led by Björn Vickhoff discovered that this synchronicity can produce a sense of calm that is similar to the effects of yoga. To learn more, click here.

Scoring 701 and winning First Place Chorus, Pride of Portland joined the elite ranks of Master Chorus.  This was accomplished during the final Region 24 Competition held in Boise, Idaho, April 2013.

With this regional win, Director Ryan Heller attained the honored Master 700 Director level. Presently there are only twelve Sweet Adeline Directors wearing the Master 700 Director pin.
