I was introduced to women’s barbershop while living in Juneau, AK, in 1985 by my hairdresser, Paula. I was expecting my fourth child at the time. In Juneau, we had a small chorus of 16 women who graciously accepted my son and I into their close-knit group. When I moved to Portland, not knowing a single person, the first thing I did was to find a Sweet Adelines chorus. I had only lived in Portland three weeks when I joined a local chorus. The lovely part of this story is that my friend Paula (from Juneau) also moved to Oregon and we have continued our friendship through Sweet Adelines for all these years!
It’s now 28 years later and I am having the time of my life. I continue to improve my vocal and visual skills as well as cultivate wonderful short and long term friendships. I’m currently serving as co-team leader of the chorus, having held other positions on the management team in years past. I’ve led physical warm-ups for the chorus for nearly 25 years, been a member of the front row since day one, and have sung every part except baritone! Sweet Adelines is a perfect outlet for my alter ego. In my spare time I love to spend time with my four children, their spouses and our seven grandchildren--all of whom support their mom/grandma in her musical endeavors!
